Osteopathy is a system of health care focused on treatment of Neuro-Musculo-Skeletal conditions and injuries. Osteopathy is a hands on modality that is considered to be a combination of physiotherapy and massage therapy, which emphasizes structure and function in the body and ways it can be treated via mobilization, muscle energy techniques, cranial sacral/visceral mobilization and soft tissue treatment.
The word Osteopathy is of greek origin which translates to bone and dysfunction. Dr. A.T Still, the founder of Osteopathy chose this name to show how structure (bones) governs function (movement). A boney misalignment can create a dysfunction in the soft tissue components of the body thus causing imbalance, improper wear and tear on joints and scar tissue formation.
